Staying active is important in any phase of life, but there are some major benefits to doing safe exercise during pregnancy and early postpartum when you are healing. 

The problem is, we don't always know if what we are doing is considered safe. That's why I have loved following a program that is pregnancy and postpartum specific.

The Expecting and Empowered app is a one stop shop for all things prenatal and postpartum fitness, they even have a program to help you get into running, yoga, or strength training for whatever phase of life you are in!

PREGNANCY

My weekly split (while pregnant) is following the Pregnancy Strength Program, which is set up by trimester:

  • Monday - lower body in Expecting and Empowered
  • Tuesday - upper body in Expecting and Empowered
  • Wednesday - pilates (separate at a local studio) or walk
  • Thursday - off
  • Friday - Full body in Expecting and Empowered
  • Saturday - walk or workout class with friends
  • Sunday - off

Each pregnancy Expecting and Empowered workout is split into 3 sections: 

1. Flexibility/Pelvic Floor

2. Circuit training

3. Core (all pregnancy safe!)

 

In my first pregnancy I was so unsure of what core moves I could safely do, but I'm so glad I now this app as a guide to keep my core strong, safely!

 

Postpartum

One thing I am looking forward to having is the Postpartum Strength Program. They offer 2 of them, one specific for a vaginal birth and one for cesarean! 

You can start as soon as week 1 with Pelvic Floor/Core Restoration breath work for at least 6 weeks before working up to their actual strength program once cleared by your provider. 

Pelvic floor and core recovery is something I really prioritized in my own postpartum journey the first time and is something I offer in my 4th Trimester Fundamentals Program! 

This next postpartum once I am healed, I want to do their beginner running program to help me get better, something I never felt confident in after my first baby! They offer a postpartum assessment before to make sure your body and pelvic floor is ready for the higher impact of running, so you can do it safely!
