Jan 16, 2024Foods to Focus on for Fertility Health
An important step towards preparing your body for a baby is focusing on a well-rounded diet that fuels your fertility. When it comes to having a baby, A LOT is out of your control but how you are nourishing your body is something that you can control. Here are some key foods and nutrients that could help enhance your fertility health.
Full Fat Dairy Products
Studies suggest that consuming one or more servings of full-fat dairy per day can improve fertility. Foods like whole milk, full-fat yogurt, and cheese are abundant in essential vitamins and minerals, including calcium and vitamin D.
Fiber-rich Foods
Fiber aids digestion and helps regulate blood sugar levels, which is vital for balancing hormones. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes are excellent sources of dietary fiber.
Vitamins and Minerals
Vitamins and minerals play a critical role in reproductive health. Folate, found in leafy greens, citrus fruits, and beans, is particularly important for women trying to conceive. Zinc, found in meat, shellfish, and dairy, contributes to fertility in both men and women.
Protein and Collagen
High-quality proteins like lean meats, fish, and eggs can improve egg health and regulate menstrual cycle. Collagen, a type of protein found in bone broth and supplement form, is beneficial for enhancing egg quality and preparing your body for all the changes that will happen.
Hydration
Staying hydrated is critical for maintaining optimal body function, including reproductive health. Drinking plenty of water can assist in cervical fluid production, a key component in conception. Adding electrolytes or minerals can better allow your cells to utilize the fluid you give them, and also helps with fatigue.
